The Friday, July 8th event brought together Northwest leaders and leaders from Washington, DC for discussion on federal efforts to promote sustainable communities, encourage innovation, and support economic growth. Following the morning presentations, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a number of workshops.

Speakers at the event included: Keynote speaker, Chris Lu, Assistant to the President and Cabinet Secretary, White House; Hyeok Kim of the President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders; Kendee Yamaguchi, Executive Director, Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs; Jill Wakefield, Chancellor of the Seattle Community Colleges; and Mark Mitsui, President of North Seattle Community College.

The speakers were followed by a session entitled "How the Federal Government is Working for You: Strengthening Your Communities." The participants in this session: Calvin Goings, the Region XI Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration; Christina Lagdameo, Deputy Director, White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders; Dennis McLerran, Region X Administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and Lisa Hasagawa, Exectuvie Director of the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development.
