A partnership agreement entering into a collaborative partnership to implement the Seattle Promise Program in the upcoming years was signed during the press conference. All Seattle Public School high school students enrolled in the Fall of 2019 will be eligible for two years of free college at any of the Seattle Colleges.

The Seattle Promise College Tuition Program seeks to remove financial barriers that traditionally prevent Seattle public high school graduates from earning a degree, credential, or certificate.

Eligibility details have not yet been determined, but the program is planned for initial rollout in 2018 and will bolster the Seattle Colleges efforts around supporting area high school students with the 13thYear Promise Scholarship. The scholarship gives one year of free tuition to graduating seniors in select high schools, with the intention of eventually making it available to all Seattle high schools.

Seniors in the Class of 2018 at Ingraham High School will be the first students in North’s service area to be eligible for the13thYear Promise Scholarship. The scholarship will cover their first year of tuition. The Seattle Promise Scholarship Program signed by the Mayor would then cover the second year of tuition.

The Mayor is expecting a final recommendation in March 2018 from a workgroup regarding the details of how the Seattle Promise College Tuition Program will be rolled out. More information will be shared as it becomes available. In the meantime, if you would like to read more about the Mayor’s Executive Order or how the program will work, please see the media coverage below.
